ABOUT MIDTOWN SOUND DETROIT COMMUNITY RADIO STATION Midtown Sound is a community radio station focused on uniting artists, residents and businesses through music, news and dialogue. The Local Community Radio Act of 2010 will soon make licenses available for non-commercial low power FM radio stations throughout the U.S. We hope to take advantage of this exciting opportunity for us to showcase and unite our local talent, celebrate our varied musical contributions, and create a public forum in which to collectively address the matters affecting our community. Our goal is to provide radio programming that celebrates our past while promoting the creative spirit that drives our city toward the future. Community Radio will benefit Midtown for three reasons: 1.Music: Midtown is the cultural hub of Detroit and home to many of the cities’ artists, students, families, educational and cultural institutions, restaurants, and nightlife. Community radio provides an opportunity to explore a wider range of musical artists and showcase our own city’s legendary musical contributions through locally produced programming. 2.News: Deregulation of media outlets has resulted in a lack of diversity and localism in our news sources. Midtown Sound will address this problem by providing coverage of local news and matters affecting our community as told by the people who live here. 3.Community Empowerment: Community radio relies on the voluntary contributions of the residents that it serves. Midtown Sound will empower community members by providing them the resources to produce their own media and an opportunity for their voice to be heard.
